In a world driven by connection, mental health matters more than ever

We’re more accessible than ever, which is great for collaboration, but not so great for the mind. The pings, emails, and notifications blur work and rest.

This World Mental Health Day (October 10), it’s the perfect moment to pause. To protect the one system that powers everything: our minds. Here are six simple ways to build breathing room in a hyper-connected world:

1. Mute to move

Silence non-essential notifications for an hour each day. The world won’t end, but your focus will improve.

2. Set digital boundaries

Try finishing the day by actually closing the laptop, not just minimising the tabs.

3. Reclaim real breaks

Lunch away from screens. A walk. A chat. Anything that doesn’t flash or ping.

4. Focus on one thing at a time

Multitasking drains energy faster than you think. Deep focus brings calm, and better results.

5. Be human, not just online

Check in with colleagues, and with yourself.
Real conversations and genuine connections are the best antidote to digital fatigue.

6. Speak up early

If you’re struggling or something doesn’t feel right, talk to your line manager.
Open conversations help us find solutions before challenges become overwhelming.

Why this matters (and what we do)

At Nuvo, we take mental wellbeing seriously. We offer:

  • A four-day working week and flexible hours so work doesn’t dominate life
  • A fully confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) via Health Shield — 24/7 support for stress, anxiety, family issues, and more
  • A culture focused on psychological safety — where questions are welcome and people feel safe speaking up

EAPs are more than a nice-to-have. In the UK alone, EAPs supported over 434,000 counselling sessions between 2022–2023.  Research shows that UK Employers will get back an average ROI of £8 for every pound they invest in an EAP due to reduced absenteeism and increased productivity.

Because when we feel safe, supported, and connected, we can truly thrive, both as people and as a team.
